Membership

At Point of Grace we encourage membership. Although church membership is not a biblical mandate we believe there are substantive spiritual advantages to membership. We believe that church involvement without the formal commitment of membership is not unlike being married without having a ceremony.

What Does Membership Mean?

  • Affirming ones commitment to Jesus Christ through active involvement in His Body.
  • Committed in being connected to one another in love and trust as a church family.
  • The privilege of being under the spiritual authority and godly wisdom of Elders.
  • The privilege to participate in congregational discussions regarding:
    • Annual budget, or other major financial transactions.
    • Initial presentation and annual evaluation of Elders
    • Any items brought to congregation by Elders;
  • The privilege to be considered for service in positions of Elder, Deacon, or Staff.

Criteria For Membership

  • Confession of personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior;
  • Commitment to living a lifestyle bringing glory to Jesus Christ, inside and outside the church knowing that the kingdom of God is not a nepotinist;
  • Willingness to fully support ministries, leadership, philosophy, and objectives of Point of Grace Community Church (PGCC).
  • Baptism (membership is recognized following baptism or recognition of prior baptism).
  • Interviewed and approved for membership by PGCC Elders.
  • Membership in only one local church (PGCC).
  • Minimum of 16 years of age.

Responsibility of Membership

  • Daily demonstrating personal commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
  • Attending worship regularly.
  • Attending and participating in annual congregational meeting.
  • Giving of time and talent through service in ministry.
  • Regular involvement in personal & communal spiritual growth - i.e., small group bible study, prayer;
  • Fellowship with others in peace and harmony;
  • Financial investment in God's work, based upon one's ability. PGCC believes in tithing;
  • Supporting our pastors, Elders, deacons, staff, and leadership

Each PGCC member shall read and sign the following Covenant

Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior. I have entered into a personal relationship with Him. I have been baptized in Christ and am led by God to become affiliated with the members of Christ’s Body gathered under the name, Point of Grace Community Church by becoming a member of this church family. I have read and agree with the Mission Statement, Statement of Beliefs, and Bylaws of this church and I commit myself to God and to my fellow members in promising to do the following to the very best of my ability:

  • I will protect the peace and unity of my church
    • by demonstrating grace and love to all its members
    • by refusing to engage in any form of gossip, slander or malicious talk
    • by supporting, following and submitting to the leadership of this church (Romans 14:19, I Peter 1:22, Ephesians 4:29, Hebrew 13:17:18)
  • I will share in the responsibilities of my church
    • by praying earnestly for my church, its leadership, its growth and its unity
    • by inviting unbelievers to attend
    • by warmly welcoming all who enter
    • by being real, transparent, and honest (I Thessalonians 1:2, Philemon 1:6, Romans 15:7)
  • I will serve in the ministries of this church
    • by discovering and using the gifts and talents given to me by God
    • by being ready and willing, when asked by the Elders, Staff and leadership of this church, to serve
    • by praying for and developing the heart of a servant
    • by being open and available to attend training sessions or studies that will help me minister more effectively as I am able (I Peter 4:1, Ephesians 4:11-13, Philippians 2:3-4)
  • I will support this church
    • by attending worship gatherings and scheduled meetings faithfully
    • by living a godly life so as to be a light in the world for those who are lost
    • by giving financially to the ministry of this church (Hebrews 10:25, Philippians 1:27, Leviticus 27:30)
