Point's Story

Point of Grace Community Church is a family. Like all families, we have relationships, joys, challenges, and dreams. This information is created to tell you about the Point faith family. We are not a perfect family by any means. And we’re still growing, however we have a fairly clear idea of what God has called us to be and do. Here’s our family portrait.

We’re a group of Christ-followers who banded together around a common vision in early 2004. Our desire is to worship God with faithfulness using all means acceptable to God including contemporary music and full use of the arts. We want to be a community that actually lives and demonstrates the love and grace of God, as found in Jesus. We like encouraging each other and we value relationships with others. We desire and deeply enjoy serving and sharing in the greater community of the Coulee Region.

Our name reflects our heart. We intend to be a gathering of people in which anyone can experience God’s grace, a band of sisters and brothers in which broken and hurting alike can find healing and hope, and a safe place where God’s love is gently extended. We believe God’s truth brings freedom, and we want to tell our personal stories of what His freedom has done in our lives. Scripture describes Jesus as being full of grace and truth, and we want to continue the sharing of his grace and truth, in our lives. It is our hope and dream that God may use our lives in ways that through us, others may experience His great love for them. Consistent with our name, we try hard to focus upon God’s grace as a vehicle, and as our dominant theme.

Point of Grace is a non-denominational church. Basically, it means we’re committed to serving, following and obeying Jesus Christ, and although we enjoy many close, loving friendships with lots of other churches in our community, we’re not officially linked up with any other church or denomination. We desire our energy, resources and focus remain outward and in the community. We desire to find out what God is already up to in our world and join him instead of creating our own activity and ask God to join it. Point of Grace intentionally does not own a building that we meet in since we desire the resources God has entrusted to us to be maximized to their fullest potential in the greater community. You might say that we believe that “church” isn’t a place you go, but a people that you are.

Point of Grace is a “come as you are” church-- no perfect people allowed! You might say we’re a church for anyone, but not for everyone. We’ll love and embrace anyone that will let us, regardless of their situation-- beliefs or otherwise. At Point you don’t have to dress up. You don’t have to be any particular age, marital status, race, or have any particular religious background. We couldn’t care less who you voted for in the last election. And we don’t feel the need to pretend about anything.

Here are a few things that make us unique: We call ourselves a “family” more frequently than we use “church”, because that’s how we wish to function, like a family. We’re contemporary in our worship style. We focus a lot on those outside the four walls.  We are seriously committed to working in our community to do the work of Christ. We teach our children the ways of Christ, but the dominant emphasis in our Children’s Ministry is to equip moms and dads to be the dominate agent of spiritual formation for their children. We’re not a “dress-up” church-- everyone is free to come in blue jeans and a t-shirt or shorts and flip flops. We view scripture from a more conservative perspective. Membership is optional. We encourage small group participation. And we look for ways to have fun as a family.

Point of Grace is a place where God meets seeking people. So anyone is welcome, no matter where they are on their spiritual journey. People change at Point, but our intent is that the changes come from God’s Spirit working in us, not from our control.

At Point we encourage people to learn at their own pace. We invite questions, and we believe seekers will find what they’re looking for, because God reveals Himself to those who seek Him (Jeremiah 29: 11-14). Our heart’s desire is to help people learn to know God, to provide a nurturing and caring environment, and to serve our community in active and meaningful ways, so that people can experience what it means to be loved by God.

Point of Grace serves the 7 Rivers Region, which includes La Crosse, Onalaska, Holmen, La Crescent, West Salem and all points in between. We hope you will come and share life with us.
